CONGREGATIONAL UPDATE MAY 2009 |
|
Dear Congregation Member: Our Building Community program is
taking shape. At our
informational meeting in January of this year, we shared an update of our
progress. At this meeting,
committee members and staff discussed major revisions that have been made
to our project scope since the Building Community Capital Campaign last
spring, when the congregation first began this exciting project. The effects of our global economy
on prices also impacted our proposed project cost.
Our project, originally envisioned at $7 million, had grown to an
estimated $10 million. The
Capital Campaign was expected to generate $5 million, which it succeeded
in accomplishing thanks to the generosity of our members.
This left a sizeable gap in our project budget.
Being responsible to the task of providing a building project which
accomplished many of the goals originally set, the Building Committee
challenged themselves and our Architect to revisit how the objectives of
the project could be achieved at considerably less cost. The result was a dramatic
enhancement of our facility achieving 75% of the original objectives, for
about $5 million. Session has
endorsed the plan and the Building Committee continues refining the
details of the project, which are outlined in the attachment.
In short, our new atrium will still be built in addition to the
renovation and reconfiguring of offices, meeting, and classroom spaces for
the Nursery and Sunday Schools. However,
parish hall and the kitchen will now be renovated rather than building a
second story addition as previously planned.
The Building Committee is pleased with the revised plans and we
have received very positive feedback from the congregation.
We have been meeting with our architects and planners often in
order to refine the construction plans.
We anticipate starting construction in July/August 2009. We thank you for your continued
support of this important enhancement to our ministry.
We feel that these wonderful changes to our church home will be a
huge part of our continued vision of building community in Sincerely, The Building Committee |
